31135 3-in-1 Vintage Motorcycle LEGO Review - Creator, 2023

Unusual parts and colors, but mostly Technic.

TL;DR:

  • Original Price:  $14.99
  • Pieces: 129
  • Minifigure(s): No
  • Sticker Sheet: No
  • Pros: Moderately-rare parts in unusual colors, realistic primary build
  • Cons: More of a Technic build than a normal brick build (expectable given the models), less-impressive secondary builds

Assembly:

Build #1 - Vintage Motorcycle

 Leftover Pieces (from Build 1)

Build #2 - Motorbike

Build #3 - Dragster

  • Interesting Steps:
    • Build 1, step 16 uses a soda can top tile as the gas tank's cap, which is a nice little touch.

    • Build 1, step 30 & 43 has the axle holder (Technic axle & pin holder #1) loose on one side: the 4L axle slides through one, with its stop keeping it from going all the way through, then the wheel (and either two 20-tooth bevel gears or 2 Technic pulleys) with the un-stopped end of the axle just resting through the other holder's hole. The wheel yokes' design hold these in the right position, but it was odd not having it as secure as I'd have done myself. On the plus side it does mean there isn't a need for a longer axle and more Technic bushings to keep things in place.

    • Build 1, step 53 Constructed from reddish-brown curves and slopes, the seat's design is efficient and effective.

  • Interesting Pieces:
    • I'm always happy to get unusual tile shapes, and the 2x4 oval in dark turquoise is definitely a win (and one of the main reasons I sought out this set in the first place).

The primary build, as usually is the case with these 3-in-1 sets, is the most impressive. There is a smart part use (for example, a grey bucket piece to form the end of the tailpipe) and an overall cohesive look. The other builds are ok, but I could see the vintage motorcycle being built and placed on someone's desk or in their garage on top of the tool chest. The color scheme also helps this look, and it stands up acceptably-well on its kickstand. The price is admittedly a bit high, and a $10 price point seems a better fit for the piece count and not-quite-rarity.

Score (out of 5 🧱):

  • Price: 🧱🧱
  • Process: 🧱🧱🧱🧱
  • Presentation: 🧱🧱🧱🧱🧱
  • Play: 🧱🧱🧱
  • Pieces: 🧱🧱🧱🧱
  • Total: 🧱🧱🧱🧱
