The fastest ship build in the galaxy!
TL;DR:
- Original Price: $4.99
- Pieces: 74
- Minifigure(s): No
- Sticker Sheet: No
- Pros: good price and satisfying result
- Cons: quick and simple build
Assembly:
Leftover Pieces
- Interesting Techniques:
- The thickness of the ship is made up of several double-stacked 1x2s and 2x4s. If I had been designing this, I would have alternated their placement so as to make separation easier (everyone knows how difficult two stacked 1x2s can be to separate; though at least with 2x4s you can put one brick separator on top and one below, offset by two studs but on the same side, to add additional leverage). Still, the doubling does add to the simplicity and cheapness of this set, rather than having extra and complicated steps of overlapping plates with different sizes.
- The trans-light blue 1x2 plate stacks that represent the engine vents are placed well back. While this does give the rear of the ship a bit of shadow (as though the engines are turned off), I'd have placed them one stud further rearward. That way they are actually visible, and make the ship that much more zippy-looking.
• Overall: Another great polybag set, especially for those LEGO Star Wars fans who can't afford the cost (or space) of the minifig-scale Millennium Falcons. It's also a good value, at $0.07 per piece, compared to $0.10 for the chunkier Microfighter or $0.11 for the Dark Falcon or the current UCS. It was enjoyable to put together...the first time at least. There isn't much in the way of surprises or unexpected part use here, just basic stacking and none-too-rare parts. The plus side of that being that anyone who wishes to build this for themselves can always just use the instructions and their own parts. Like most of the better polybag sets, this would make a great add-on gift for new and seasoned builders alike, especially anyone who is into LEGO and Star Wars.
